Golden Retriever grows up speaking four languages

REVIEWS

Coucou the dog has four regular carers. He gets the extra portion of exercise a Golden Retriever needs and stays mentally fit — he even learned commands in four different languages.

For dog lover Andrés, a full‑time dog would be too time‑consuming right now. But he enjoys being able to spend a few days each month with Coucou.

A life with more movement

Since summer 2021, Andrés has been using Happy Puppy — and soon met Coucou. The chemistry was right from the start. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s a Golden Retriever or because it just clicked from day one — but it works perfectly,” says Andrés.

A nice side effect: Coucou gets him moving. “When Coucou is around, my step count shoots up — up to 20,000 steps a day. That feels great.”

Four carers, one happy dog

Coucou lives in a special dog‑sharing setup: in total, four people look after him regularly. For Andrés, who grew up with dogs, that’s ideal. “Coucou is my third Golden Retriever — the other two were my own dogs. Right now I don’t have time for a full‑time dog. So it’s perfect to have him at my place several days a month.”

This flexible system ensures that Coucou gets plenty of exercise, variety and attention — without any one person bearing the full responsibility.

Commands in four languages

Beyond the long walks, Coucou also benefits mentally from his special environment. His carers speak different languages: Spanish, German, English and Arabic. “He must be a bit confused sometimes,” Andrés smiles. “But he actually learned certain commands in all four languages — which is really exciting.”

Whether “Sit” or “Yalla” — Coucou understands and shows how capable and adaptable dogs can be.

A win for everyone involved

Thanks to Happy Puppy, Andrés has found a canine companion who enriches his life — without the obligations of full‑time ownership. Coucou benefits from exercise, attention and variety in everyday life.

This is a great example of how dog sharing connects dogs and people — and makes both happier.
